Albedo Measurement: A Key Step in Optimal Solar Plant Design and Operation
In the design and operation of solar power plants, one of the most critical environmental parameters directly affecting system performance is the ground reflectivity coefficient, known as Albedo. Accurate measurement of Albedo at the plant site—especially for projects using bifacial panels—plays a decisive role in energy yield prediction, structural design, and economic analysis.
Aseman-Rasad Hadi, with specialized equipment and an experienced technical team, provides precise on-site Albedo measurement services for solar projects. This service is considered a cornerstone of pre-commissioning studies and validation of real plant performance.
What Is Albedo and Why Does It Matter?
Albedo refers to the amount of sunlight reflected from the ground surface surrounding solar panels. The higher the Albedo, the more light is reflected to the rear side of bifacial panels, resulting in increased output power. Factors influencing Albedo include soil type, vegetation cover, surface moisture, ground color and texture, and even the sun’s angle at different times of day.
Without accurate Albedo measurement, energy yield predictions for bifacial plants may involve significant errors, ultimately leading to discrepancies in return on investment, conflicts with simulation models, and even contractual disputes with investors or EPC contractors.
How We Perform Albedo Testing
Using high-precision sensors, we measure ground reflectivity at different times and under varying light conditions. The collected data is then presented in a documented technical report, including statistical analysis and comparative charts. If required, Albedo measurements are conducted at multiple points across the site, with spatial and temporal averaging to enhance accuracy.
